Oklahoma passes Sharia Law ban. Because, you know, that wussy 1st Ammendment isn’t enough (or are we planning on repealing it, now Oklahoma doesn’t need it any more)

Californian’s vote to continue costly prohibition. Mainly because the voting base who would have voted to end it, stayed home.

Thanks mikeyk for posting that, while I don’t think (and certainly hope ) things won’t get quite that bad, I sincerely hope you don’t mind me sharing what you so eloquently summed up.

Of course, if the democrats hadn’t squandered a supermajority, and did the right thing as opposed to what they thought might get them re-elected (hah!) the D base wouldn’t have been some horribly uninspired.

Oh well, I will take solace in the fact that Sharron Angle didn’t get elected, although Reid seriously needs to step down. I feel bad that Christine O’Donnell didn’t get in,  we’d have had comedy for 6 years. We have Rand Paul still, I enjoyed his acceptance speech – but I think he’s going to find he’s in over his head. Or, potentially, become a younger version of his dad, Ron. Which wouldn’t necessarily be all bad.

Oh well… way to go USA.

However, there is a fundamental downside that casts any good religion does into stark shadow.

Indoctrinating Telling people that “everything will come together as god wills it”, “god has a plan for the world”, and “even if life on earth is hard, when you get to heaven it will be paradise” does one hideous thing. It encourages these poor people to do nothing and “put it in the hands of the lord”. Everything is NOT going to be okay until we as a human race start taking care of things RIGHT NOW… not put them off for our children to deal with because we believe some orbiting sky fairy has shit firmly under control.

Religion stifles creativity, encourages the growth of a non-taxed entertainment industry, and can lead to stunning ignorance.

Atheists need to come out and start challenging this delusional behavior. Although I’m not a huge fan or Karl Marx, he did correctly state that “Religion is the opiate of the masses”… smoke this, and everything will be juuuuuust fine.

The country is in the toilet, the stock market is umming and ahhhing and still the .gov is spending cash trying to make things right… but it’s not working, and it needs to show signs of recovery or that whole “hopey changey” thing really won’t matter any more.

The Presidential campaign for 2012 isn’t too far away now, only 7 months, and given how much we’re all hurting currently, it wouldn’t be surprising if the GOP take control of the house in the 2010 elections.

However, this is the party that didn’t come up with anything except oppose oppose oppose…. at least the Dems tried to put something together. Personally, I wouldn’t want to take over the country in 2012 unless some green shoots really start getting their shit together… what sane person would?

We’ve got a total disaster in the Gulf of Mexico that was predominantly caused by corporations running the government agencies that were put in place to regulate them, we have a crazy puppet midget in North Korea who is trying to start a conflict, knowing that the cupboard for military action is already getting pretty bare. We have Wall St out of control, making millions while we watch our retirement plans dwindle.

There is a lot of shit that is broken, right now…. a lot of policies in place that are wasting our tax dollars. It’s time for prohibition to end, at least on marijuana and… so called “sex trade”, and we need to focus on what’s important… putting in place a system that nurtures and encourages small business to grow and prosper.

We are also obsessed with the stupidest things, like the penny and the dollar bill…. if we can abolish the penny and the paper dollar (and save $500m a year) We are at least saying “things need to change – because doing the same thing is insane” Get rid of the Penny, and put George Washington and Abe Lincoln on the new Dollar Coin.

Legalize and tax marijuana, use a portion of the revenue to educate and rehabilitate like we have with alcohol. Legalize and tax prostitution… it’s called the oldest profession for a reason, and as George Carlin (rest his brilliant soul) said, “If selling is legal, and fucking is legal, how come selling fucking is illegal”

And again, use some of those new tax dollars to fight the downside of the “sin trade” like human trafficking and diseases.

This country cannot afford it’s puritanical and traditionalist roots any more. These things are never going away, the penny is worth nothing anymore, and dope and hookers will ALWAYS be around. Let’s at least say – okay, we get it… rather than cling to outmoded, outdated, and futile policies…. and just legalize it already.

Plus, having legalized dope, booze (thank you 21st ammendment) and hookers… I can’t think of a better way to combat Fundamental Islam than by being way cooler than our dorky head covered cousins.

While I’m on my soap box… federally legalize gay marriage too… do you have any idea how much these queers spend on getting hitched? Serious – fucking stimulus bill… well, in more ways than one… and a happy fag is good for the fucking economy and the morale of the people… can you imagine Bill Maher getting pissed over that? Thank gaaaaaawddd.

Don’t you think GB should also be talking about that? He talks about GM and National Debt but I don’t see anything about the Banks ripping us off.

Glenn – if you’re as non-partisan as you say, I think your audience needs to hear your thoughts on this.

The Banks (JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and Citi) made money every day last fiscal quarter, regardless of how the market performed.

Matt Taibbi from Rolling Stone Magazine also broke this story, but I’m shocked how little light has been shed on this, and how very very very FUCKIN VERY little people know about this.

Short version: remember that bailout? Where the .gov lent these banks money at 0% interest? What did the banks do with this money? Well they bought treasuries. In other words, they lent money back to the government… but charged them interest for doing so.

Huge amount of comments following it up, and two things are clear:

1) GB’s popularity/notoriety is still on the rise given a lot of the comments that come out in his support and kneejerk reactions to his stance.

2) A lot of people, including GB it seems, don’t understand what Net Neutrality is.

Now, one of the more reasonable Beckophiles did make a good point that what GB is afraid of , is that the goverment will go beyond the basic principle of NN and end up overstepping their reach – fair comment, .gov does that quite a bit.  I can only imagine that any legislation will be full of bloat and pork. However NN is such a singularly important concept, that we absolutely have to ensure that corporations don’t unfairly throttle down access to competitors or competitors of “friends”. Of course, legislation can’t ever be that easy – so .gov are bound to screw it up, like they did healthcare reform.

Not that I was deluged by a huge amount of viewers last year… but then again, no new content.

Since then, we’ve got a new president. I keep thinking Obama’s trying to do his bit, but the system is so rotten and corrupt that trying to do anything properly seems next to impossible, I guess.
